Fosil
E.Berhan Yıldız, known by his stage name Fosil, is an Istanbul-based sound designer, music producer, and DJ. Renowned for his innovative approach, Fosil is a multidisciplinary artist who challenges traditional boundaries by integrating Turkish Instruments and Cartoon Samples into atonal and experimental soundscapes. Since 2015, he has been crafting unique musical expressions, blending experimental styles with groovy, off-grid breakbeats to create a signature sound that stands apart.
In 2018, Fosil co-founded Badmash Collective, a pioneering initiative aimed at shaping the evolving Turkish underground music scene. Through his leadership, the collective has become a vital cultural force, merging artistic vision with community engagement.
Fosil’s talent and contributions have earned him a spot on notable stages, including Sonar Festival, Soundport Festival, Sound of Istanbul, and Electronica Festival. He has shared lineups with renowned artists such as Mobb Deep, Flowdan, Loefah, Clark, Objekt, Blawan, BICEP, Ben Ufo, Oldboy, Max Cooper showcasing his dynamic sound on an international scale.
In addition to his live performances and music releases in the United States, Europe, and Japan, Fosil was involved in the creation of a sound archive for Istanbul Modern Museum, where he also performed a live concert. This milestone further solidified his reputation as a forward-thinking artist committed to cultural innovation.
At the end of 2023, Fosil secured funding from the European Union’s Culture Civic art program, enabling him to develop the groundbreaking project “Zanaat Tapes.” This endeavor explores the intersection of music, craftsmanship, and cultural dialogue, reflecting his deep engagement with both artistic and societal themes.
Today, Fosil continues his creative journey in Istanbul, producing music that pushes the limits of sonic exploration while inspiring the next generation of underground artists.
